Welcome to my blog where I test, evaluate, and share recipes. I love trying new recipes, creating recipes, and improving on the classics. I also post about where I have gone to find quality products and the freshest ingredients in the Food Travels tab. If you have pets, you might enjoy making a homemade treat from the Dog and Parrot recipe tabs. Please feel free to comment or make suggestions on this blog. If you have any recipes that you would like me to test or improve (make it healthier, substitutions, put a twist on it, etc.), please email me at breagha70@gmail.com or click on the "Recipe Suggestions" tab above.

Parrot Recipes

I love my little parrot, a plumhead, named Lyndsay.  Parrots are a lot of work and they require a very healthy diet consisting of nuts, fruits, veggies, and pellets.  They also need stimulation and attention.  One way to stimulate them is to use colorful foods that are healthy for them.  It gets them excited and entertained.  Fresh fruits and veggies are a must and Lyndsay gets his share of these.  He also likes the baked treats that I make for him, and are healthy for him.  The main treat I bake for him is called, "Birdie Bread."  I don't know who came up with this recipe, but I have been making it for Lyndsay for his entire lifespan thus far (14 years).  If you have a parrot, big or small, make some and listen for the appreciative chirps!

1 package of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
1/2 cup of parrot seed, pellet(whatever seed you give to your parrot)
1/4 cup of kidney beans
1/4 cup of dried fruits (apricots, banana, raisins, coconut shavings, etc.)

Prepare the corn muffin mix as directed on the box.  Add the remaining ingredients to the batter.  Bake and cool.  Cut up into little squares and serve to your parrot.  Note:  You must refrigerate.  You may freeze in freezer bags.
